Nirad C. Chaudhuri was born in 1897 in Kishorgonj, Mymensingh, now in Bangladesh.
His masterwork, The Autobiography of an Unknown Indian ISBN: 0-201-15576-1 published in 1951 put him on the short list of great Indian English writers. He chronicles his life and opinions. He wrote a sequel, Thy Hand, Great Anarch.
