Oliver Wood is a fictional character in the Harry Potter books who is played by Sean Biggerstaff in the film adaptions. Wood was the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team in the first three books, but he left Hogwarts at the end of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Wood had a reputation for working the team too hard, which he well deserved, making them practice in the pouring rain. He also is more concerned with winning than the well-being of his team. For example, he once told Harry to "get the Snitch or die trying." He was very determinded to win the Quidditch cup and when Harry joined the team as the youngest Seeker in a century, he thought it was in the bag.
It wasn't, due to a compbination of unfortionate coincidences. In Harry's first year, he was unconcoinous in the hospital wing during the final match leaving Gryffindor without a Seeker. The next year, Quidditch was canceled because of the chaos wrecked on the school from the opening of the Chamber of Secrets.
In Harry's third, and Wood's last year, Gryffindor finally took their long deserved reward. Wood appeared breifly in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and explained he'd been taken onto the reseve team for Puddlemore United.
