From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Open PGP is the Internet open standard used by GPG. It is RFC 2440. The standard was developed because of the wide use of PGP and the proprietary nature PGP has had while the name was owned by one or another commercial venture. PGP and programs meeting the OpenPGP standard are, mostly, interoperable. With some care and awareness.
