Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) is a state-owned, nationalized petroleum company in Mexico. It is the sole operator of all commercial petrol stations in Mexico. Pemex stations are almost mini to full-service and do not accept credit cards.
The grades of Pemex gasoline are Nova (Leaded), Magna (Regular Unleaded 87), Magna Sin (90), and Premium (93). Premium gasoline is rare in Mexico and can only be found in the major cities.
On November 19, 1984 a series of explosions at the Pemex petroleum storage facility at San Juan Ixhuatepec in Mexico City ignited a major fire and killed about 500 people.
