The game was released in Japan on November 21, 2003. The title has yet to be released in North America, but is due to be released on March 22, 2004. Pre-orders for the game was started for the game on February 9, 2004 and those who pre-ordered the game got a bonus disk that contained the normally unattainable Pokemon, Jirachi, as well as a fix for the now infamous time/berry bug in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
This title features support for Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire Pokémon games. It will also feature support for the now released in Japan titles, Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green.
It does feature all 386 known Pokémon. The game does feature a first for the Pokémon titles, a brand new true 3D RPG that allows you to capture Pokémon that you couldn’t normally catch in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, allowing you to also transfer them to Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire eventually. This includes Pokémon like Ho-Oh and the Legendary Beasts Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. Currently, there is a rumor that you may be able to capture Jirachi in the game, but currently, he only makes a couple non-obtainable appearances in the game.
This new RPG features “dark” Pokémon and a brand new “team” (like Team Rocket of previous games). This team is attempting to turn all Pokémon into evil Pokémon and it’s your job to stop them. In another twist to the Pokémon series, this will be the first game ever that you can capture (or snag as they call it in this game) Pokémon that is controlled by another trainer to later "purify" them.
While it will have limited storage ability, another Pokémon video game on the Gamecube takes over some of the duties featured in the earlier Pokémon Stadium games. This game, Pokémon Box, allows players to store their Pokémon from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire on a Gamecube memory card. This game was released in Japan on May 30th, 2003 and while expected to be released, a North American release date has yet to be announced.
