Priozersk
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Priozersk is a town in Karelia located on the island between the two arms of River Vuoksa at its flowing into Lake Ladoga. It has been a historical center of the Karelian Isthmus and from time to time the northwestern outpost of the Russian realm or the eastern outpost of the Swedish realm.

The ruined ramparts and towers of the old Korela Fortress are situated on the bank of the Vuoksa, still visible when traveling to the town from St.Petersburg.

Priozersk was known as Keksholm in Swedish and Käkisalmi and Korela in Finnish. The Swedes captured Korela twice: in 1580 for 17 years and in 1611 for 100 years. It belonged to Russia in 1721-1812, and was re-acquired in the Moscow Peace Treaty (1940).
