Puniša Račić was a Serbian nationalist from Montenegro (Zetska Banovina), member of the Yugoslav Parliament from the National Radical Party.
In the Parliament session on June 20, 1928, Račić was reportedly offended by some Croatian deputies, so he pulled out his pistol and mortally wounded several Croatians, including the leader of the Peasant Party Stjepan Radić. Following the event he was detained and convicted of the crime, but only served a de facto house arrest sentence and was later even released.
Račić led a quiet life during WW2, until his death in October 1944, when he was tried by a military court of partisan 21st. Serbian division and executed.
