Rata (Metrosideros) is a genus of trees native to New Zealand, the best-known species being Metrosideros robustus (Northern rata), M. umbellatus (Southern rata), and Metrosideros excelsa (Pohutukawa).
In Polynesian mythology, Rata is a son of Tahiti Tokerau and the murderer of Puna (who had kidnapped Tahiti Tokerau).
