Roaming
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Roaming is a term in radio telecommunications that defines the switching of a mobile end-user's device from one fixed antenna to another. Mobile phone users typically 'roam' when driving on the road when their ongoing conversation is transferred from one antenna to the next when the first antenna's signal becomes too weak, hopefully without interrupting the call.

Roaming support is essential for providing uninterrupted connectivity for users who are moving. Roaming is supported for mobile phones, but is not as extensively available for users of Wi-Fi computer networks. Wi-Fi users can typically roam with little or no interruption when moving between wireless access points on individual local area networks, but often experience trouble when roaming around large school and business campuses. Generally, people find Wi-Fi roaming to be nonexistent when moving between different areas in a city.
