Roth
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Roth Town in Germany, in the state of Bavaria, situated about 25 km south of Nuremberg (Nürnberg). The town was first mentioned in documents in the year 1060, but settlements at its location date back a lot further. During the middle ages the town was given the right to grant asylum within the city walls. Later this tradition atracted Hugenot refugees who had to flee France because of reilgious persecution. They brought with them knowledge about the making of wires and founded an industry in Roth which exists until today. The city has about 25.000 inhabitants (2003). It plays host to a yearly Jazz&Blues festival. The main tourist attraction is the Schloß Ratibor, a small castle built for hunting stays by the rulers of Ansbach.
