1. Ruby is a red gemstone, one of the hardest minerals.
2. Jack Ruby (Jacob L. Rubenstein) is the man who killed Lee Harvey Oswald, who in turn was the assassin of United States President John F. Kennedy in 1963.
3. Ruby characters are sometimes used in the typography of ideographic languages, especially Japanese and Chinese.
4. Ruby is an object oriented computer programming language originally developed for scripting.
