Serial line IP
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Serial Line IP (SLIP) is a mostly obsolete encapsulation of the IP protocol designed to work over serial ports and modem connections. SLIP has been largely replaced by the PPP protocol, which is better engineered and has more features.

A version of SLIP with data compression was called CSLIP (Compressed SLIP).
