Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2000
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2000 is an act of Parliament in the United Kingdom. It changed the age of consent for gay sex from 18 (or for some activities, 21) to 16, thus equalising it with the age of consent for heterosexual sex. It also introduced the new offence of 'having sexual intercourse or engaging in any other sexual activity with a person under 18 if in a position of trust in relation to that person'.

The act was rejected by the House of Lords, and so it was passed with the authority of only the House of Commons, under the provisions of the Parliament Acts.
