The band Shonen Knife is a Japanese trio which has found some success in America, counting among their fans Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and Redd Kross. They cite as their main influences 60's girl groups and punk.
Shonen Knife formed in December 1981 with Michie Nakatani on vocals and bass, Naoko Yamano on vocals and guitar, and Atsuko Yamano on drums. However, Michie Nakatani left the band in December of 1999 and Atsuko Yamano now peforms on bass.
