Snaphance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Snaphance refers to a method of igniting a bullets propellant in a loaded weapon. First appearing in the late 1500s it uses flint and steel much like the Wheellock to create a spark to set off the gunpowder, but in simpler, and thus easier to produce weapon. The flint would be held in vice at the end of a cocked lever, which upon pulling the trigger would come down and strike a plate of metal releasing a shower of sparks into the Flashpan to fire off the bullet.
