SpongeBob SquarePants is an animated television series, which uses computer animation and is created by Nickelodeon. The show first appeared in July of 1999 and it has become popular with children as well as having a strong following on by American college students. The main characters are SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Starfish, Squidward Tentacles and Mr. Krabs. The show has aired 59 episodes as of January 19, 2003 with 3 left to be shown. No new episodes are currently in production as the production team that produces Spongebob has transferred all of their efforts into a Spongebob theatrical movie that is currently being worked on. The release date for the movie is November 19th, 2004. The teaser trailer for the movie that's currently availabe at the end has the release date of "Thanksgiving 2004" (Source: Yahoo!
