The State University of New York at Buffalo, is now known as the University at Buffalo. It is one of the four university centers operated by the State University of New York System. It has had several similar names since the State of New York purchased the University of Buffalo, a private university, begun in 1843 as a medical college. In spite of the purchase in 1962, this university is still frequently called the University of Buffalo.
The original campus, located in the northeast part of the city of Buffalo, New York, is now the South Campus of the University at Buffalo. The North Campus is a new campus in nearby Amherst, New York.
The University at Buffalo has many different schools: Architecture and Planning, Arts and Sciences, Dental Medicine, Education, Engineering and Applied Science, Informatics, Law, Mangagement, Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public Health and Health Professions, and Social Work. The university has more than 100 undergraduate degree progams, along with masters, doctoral and professional programs.
