Stratford is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, located on Long Island Sound at the mouth of the Housatonic River. It was founded in 1639 and has a current population of over 49,000 living within its 18.7 square miles.
In 1939 one of the world's first successful commercial helicopters was developed in Stratford by Igor Sikorsky. The company which Igor Sikorsky started and which bears his name is still producing innovative helicopters including the latest addition to the United States' arsenal, the Comanche.
