Sudbury is an ancient town in Suffolk, East Anglia, England, on the River Stour.

It is mentioned both in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in AD 797 and in the Domesday Book.

It has three medieval churches.

It was once East Anglia's largest silk and woollen centre Weaving is still carried out today.

It was also a busy riverport.

The railway arrived in 1847.

The painter Thomas Gainsborough was born in Sudbury in 1727.

The Sudbury Society was formed in 1973 after a successful campaign to save the Corn Exchange from developers.
