The office of Minister for Foreign Affairs in Sweden was officially created in 1876. Up till then, there had been an office of Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs. Because of this history, the Minister did retain the style of Your excellency, although that is today mostly archaic. Before the parliamentary breakthrough in the early 20th century, the title was exclusively granted to members of the most prominent noble families.
