The American President is a 1995 romantic comedy movie starring Michael Douglas as a widowed Democratic President who woos an attractive lobbyist he meets (played by Annette Benning), and the personal and political difficulties that ensue.
The screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin, and some ideas he developed would inspire Sorkin's television drama The West Wing.
