The Shield is an American television series, in the police drama genre, aired by the Fox Network.
The show is notable (and controversial) for its portrayal of some of the police officers as both corrupt and brutal. The story follows the character Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) as the leader of a group of rogue members of the Los Angeles Police Department called The Strike Team. The group uses a variety of violent and extortive methods to maintain peace on the streets. Although effective, many of the other police officers are critical of the group's methods and maintain the dictum "the end does not justify the means".
