From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Throwing Muses were a post-punk alternative rock band formed in 1983 by Kristin Hersh in the United States.
Kristin Hersh was the primary singer-songwriter of the group, as well as guitarist. She enlisted her step-sister Tanya Donelly to play in her band as well. They eventually signed to the 4AD label and released their untitled debut in 1986. The members of the band have changed over the years. Kristin Hersh has also maintained a career as a solo artist. In 1990 Tanya Donnelly left Throwing Muses first to perform in the Breeders and afterwards to form Belly when she left Throwing Muses, though she returned for backing vocals on Throwing Muses' 2002 album. Throwing Muses are now officially defunct, though the band has regrouped on occasion to tour and record.
