Tourism in Hong Kong is a major industry within the Special Administrative Region.

Visitors

Hong Kong received 13 million visitors in 2000. Their origin breaks down as follows:

• Mainland China - 3.8 million
• Taiwan - 2.4 million
• South East Asia – 1.5 million
• Japan – 1.4 million
• Europe – 1.06 million
• USA – 0.97 million
• Australia – 0.41 million
• Canada – 0.25 million
• Rest of the world - 1.21 million

Hotels

There are approximately 90 hotels in Hong Kong, with a total of 35,000 rooms. The average occupation rate is 83%.
