Traralgon

Industrial and agricultural town and largest town in the Latrobe Valley. The other important towns in the Latrobe valley are Moe and Morwell ??? Combined population about 70000

Industry:

• Brown coal mining.
• Loy Yang Power stations (Huge Brown coal burning power stations)
• Dairy
• Paper Mill

Before the mining this was a picturesque agricultural town. The lignin decompositon lakes at the local paper mill also cause a serious problem of smell when there is a prevailing westerly wind.

There has been a recent problem with mesothelioma due to asbestos lagging used in some of the old power stations (now demolished).
