From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Starting in the late nineteenth century, trolley parks were picnic and recreation areas at the ends of the trolley lines, created by the trolley companies to give people a reason to use their services on weekends. They had picnic groves and pavilions, and would have events such as dances, concerts, fireworks, and eventually adding things like carousels, ferris wheels, and other rides. However, with the advent of the mass production of the automobile, they fell into deep decline and most of them disappeared; some, however, survived and developed into amusement parks.
