Three United States Navy ships have been named USS Leyte, after the island of Leyte in the Philippines, off which the Battle of Leyte Gulf occurred in 1944.
- The first Leyte was a Spanish gunboat built in 1887 in Hong Kong and captured in the Spanish-American War.
- The second Leyte (ARG-8) was a repair ship commissioned August 1944 and renamed Maui in May 1945 so as to make name available.
- The third Leyte (CV-32) was an aircraft carrier commissioned 1946 and decommissioned 1959.
