Walter de Merton

Walter de Merton (died 1277) was Bishop of Rochester, England from 1274-1277, and Lord Chancellor from 1261-1263, and 1272-1274. He was the founder of Merton College, Oxford (1264), one of the University of Oxford's earliest colleges.
