county located in the
U.S. State of
Nevada. As of
2000, the population is 339,486. Its

Geography
\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 16,968
km² (6,551
mi²). 16,426 km² (6,342 mi²) of it is land and 541 km² (209 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.19% water.
Demographics
\nAs of the census2 of
2000, there are 339,486 people, 132,084 households, and 83,741 families residing in the county. The
population density is 21/km² (54/mi²). There are 143,908 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (23/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 80.41%

The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.09.
In the county the population is spread out with 24.90% under the age of 18, 9.80% from 18 to 24, 31.00% from 25 to 44, 23.80% from 45 to 64, and 10.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 102.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.80 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $45,815, and the median income for a family is $54,283. Males have a median income of $36,226 versus $27,953 for females. The per capita income for the county is $24,277. 10.00% of the population and 6.70% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 12.20% are under the age of 18 and 6.20% are 65 or older.
