Yuen Long (元朗) is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. It is located in the North-West of the New Territories, with an area of 14,430 hectares. It covers Ping Shan Heung (屏山鄉), Ha Tsuen Heung (廈村鄉), Kam Tin Heung (錦田鄉), Pat Heung (八鄉), San Tin Heung (新田鄉), Shap Pat Heung (十八鄉), Yuen Long Town (元朗市) and Tin Shui Wai (天水圍). Population : 534,000.
Like Tai Po, Yuen Long used to be a traditional market town. The present population of Yuen Long New Town is 211,000 and is expected to grow to around 287,000 upon full development.
Within Yuen Long there are public transport like bus service provided by the Kowloon Motor Bus Holdings Limited mini-bus and taxi. Also there is Light Rail operated by the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation which run through Tuen Mun and Yuen Long
After the operations of Route 3 and Tai Lam Tunnel in mid 1998, the external transport of Yuen Long has already been improved significantly. In December 2003, Yuen Long is also started to be served by the West Rail system of the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation
