Zelenogorsk
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Zelenogorsk is a suburb of Saint Petersburg, located in a gorgeous part of the Karelian Isthmus on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, about 50 kilometers North-West of central Saint Petersburg.

The town was won from Finland in the Moscow Peace Treaty (1940). Before that, it had belonged to Russia also between 1721-1812. Its name in Finnish is Terijoki.

Formally, Zelenogorsk is an integral part of the Saint Petersburg recreation area. It is known as a summer resort for wealthy Petersburgers since 1870, when the railway between Vyborg and Petersburg was build. At the turn of the century, the town's population was counted to a few thousand, raising to above 50.000 during the summers.
